Temporary Dentures

Temporary dentures are also called "immediate dentures". Immediate dentures are the ones that are placed immediately after having a tooth extraction. With this technique, it is possible to provide the patient with the aesthetic and functional benefits of having a denture placed at the time of extraction of the teeth. This way the patient will not have to go without teeth for any period of time. Temporary dentures are generally preferred in implant treatments (see About Dental Implants). The cases in which an immediate denture is applied are: Edentulous areas after multiple extractions if the extracted tooth area is in aesthetically important frontal region if recovery period is needed after implant treatments.

Temporary dentures can be inserted in the session that extraction is performed or after the recovery of extraction area. For some patients, insertion of temporary denture after recovery is more suitable.

Temporary dentures may include single tooth, multiple teeth or the entire upper and lower jaws. In some cases, the temporary prosthesis may be converted into a permanent prosthesis.

Acrylic or Deflex®/Valplast® materials are used for the construction of the temporary dentures. Acrylic is the main material of all permanent removable dentures and Deflex®/Valplast® material is used as an alternative to the acrylic (see Deflex® / Valplast® Dentures).
